The World of Fantastically Dangerous Cell Phone Accessories

Steering wheel mounted cell phone holder

The inventor responsible for patenting this device must have been one hell of a danger during the testing process. Designed to attach your mobile phone right at the top of your car steering wheel for easy access there is no mention of safety anywhere.

Mobile phone holder

The patent document shows the inventor complaining how his mobile phone use was being hindered by having to simultaneously operate the vehicle. No kidding.

Certain objects, such as notepads, maps and cell phones, are commonly used within a vehicle, whether during longer trips or on a day-to-day basis. However, the layout of many vehicles, in particular automobiles, is rarely conducive to the use of such objects. Typically, vehicle interiors lack any space in which the object may be placed for easy access. Moreover, the use of such objects is often hindered, since the occupant must often simultaneously operate the vehicle.

Seat belt mounted phone holder

Using a phone while driving usually means taking one hand off the wheel to scramble around for your phone when it rings. Luckily an inventor has solved this tricky problem by creating a £5 holster that fastens your phone right to the seatbelt in front of you.

This is probably not something the police would approve of, should they have cause to pull you over.

Smokers phone to hold your cigarettes

Combining two items that millions of people carry round everyday might seem like a good idea but when those items are cigarettes and a mobile phone perhaps it isn’t such a sensible thing to do.

Would anyone actually buy this?

Steering wheel mounted handsfree kit

Having a handsfree kit is much safer than using a phone while driving but should the handsfree kit be mounted right on the steering wheel and have an LCD screen and call-control buttons?

This battery-operated unit allows you to chat on speakerphone and make / end calls as well as viewing your phonebook and, most worryingly, has almost made it to production.

Cigarette phone charm

This final one isn’t dangerous but it could have a negative effect if your friends find out you are so addicted to smoking that you need a phone charm cigarette to get you through the day.

Who NEEDS a mobile phone??!!! Humans have managed for years with fixed land-lines; cheaper & all over the place. Indeed even today the vast majority of the human population does not have a mobile phone. ‘Need’? What is ‘need’ & for who? Unregulated market Capitalism manufactures ‘needs’ for ‘profit’. Whose & what KIND? Not healthy, holistic, balanced & for the god of the majority. Nor even for the good of the planet. qv the pollution ‘profits’ generally make, that everyone, not only those that earn most of the profits, have to pay for, to clear up. IF the pollution can be cleared up. (Having said all that, mobile phones ARE useful when one needs to get in touch with another urgently. - MASTER their use.) — One of approximately eight billlion.

Progressive Futurist, I am one who “needs” a mobile phone. I do not have a regular land line, nor do I plan on ever getting one, as I move often, am not at home very often between moving, and like to remain in contact with friends and relatives.

Don’t assume that just because big business are pushing cell phones that there are no reasons to have one. Remember that many of those business are also the ones that run the land lines and make huge profits of those, as well.

>> “Who NEEDS a mobile phone?”

That depends entirely on how you define the word ‘need’.
