Dial-a-Phone review of Nokia E65
With a huge number of available features, the Nokia E65 is ideally suited for the fully wired businessman. The E65 is a 3G smartphone with an attractive appearance, practical slide out keypad and it's a comfortable size as well. Ideal for working on the go, the E65 is aimed at the business market, keen for the latest technology.
The Nokia E65 is similar in appearance to the Nokia 6280, but features a stylish silver and red, or silver and brown colour combination. Slider phones are unusual choice for business phones but it works well in the case of the E65, with a big screen with 16 million colours and a high resolution. The sliding mechanism is smooth and the E65 is generally a solid and well-built phone. There are four function keys that operate the phone in shut form, meaning you can open the contact book, make a call, or activate the loudspeaker without opening the phone. Skirting the four square keys in the centre are the call and end call buttons, two extra navigation buttons, a cancel button, and a menu button. These keys are a little fiddly at first, so you'll have to get used to them.
The E65's display is smart and sober, as befitting a business phone, and you can customize the navigation options to your liking in the settings menu, and through the use of shortcuts. The menu can either be ordered by icons in a grid, or in list view. The contacts book is where the E65 really steps up to the plate as an advanced business phone, with a huge capacity for contacts and extra details including company, position, multiple phone numbers, video call numbers, Internet and fax numbers, pagers, Push-to-talk addresses, emails, web addresses and street addresses. The E65 also features voice dialing.
The data capabilities of the E65 are impressive. Is it a 3G phone and the data transfer speed is fast. It also offers integrated support for WiFi networks which enables Voice over IP calls - a major selling point. The E65 also offers Bluetooth, USB and infrared connectivity as well. The internal memory on the E65 is 50 MB, but this is expandable with a MicroSD memory card.
The E65 includes a camera and music player, although these are not of the highest quality, and understandably given that the phone is primarily aimed at the business market.
The E65 is full of features ideally suited for the well-connected business person. With very few exceptions, the E65 has what it takes to bring work on the road without worry of interrupted communication or poor functionality. A solid example of a 3G Symbian phone, the E65 is an excellent buy for high intensity users.
If you're not bothered about the business applications and capabilities, you might be better off going for a Nokia 6280, or if it's a better camera or music player you want, a Nokia N73, or N91 might be better bets. Consider a more streamlined phone such as the Nokia 6300.
