Mobile phone blog Loads of news, reviews, comments and stuff!
It’s one of the most anticipated new smartphones of 2009 and a product which just may be the surprise success amongst Windows Mobile fans, as although Toshiba have considerable experience in the manufacturing of mobile phones, they have never cracked the consumer market, but with a products as exciting as the TG01, this is likely to rapidly change.
The Toshiba TG01 was unveiled earlier in the year and although we’re still waiting for the official announcement of its release, there are one or two clues which point to when this could be. First, O2 Germany will exclusively launch the phone during ’summer 2009′, with other European countries to follow soon after. They do not give a precise date, but the 20th June has been rumoured as likely by other sources.
So why do we need to get excited about the TG01? Inside the TG01 there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a clever little beast which incorporates the 3G radio and GPS receiver on a single chip, whilst also providing impressive multimedia capabilities, making the TG01 power and size efficient. At 1 Ghz, the Snapdragon is the fastest processor currently found inside a mobile phone too!
The device is 129mm long and 70mm wide, a size necessary to house the massive 4.1″ 480×800 pixel touchscreen! The fact it’s just 9.9mm thick and weighs 129 grams is an unexpected benefit! Naturally, the TG01 is a 3G phone with Wi-Fi, A2DP Bluetooth and a MicroSD card slot, plus a 3.2 megapixel camera can be found on the rear of the phone.
Toshiba have given the TG01 something called a G-sensor, which acts like an accelerometer for screen orientation, plus enables shake control for answering or muting calls and a left or right flick to move through menu screens. Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional is the OS of choice and we’re looking forward to seeing how it benefits from the 1Ghz of power and 512MB of ROM. Business users will be pleased to note that Pocket Office will be installed and ready to go.
Toshiba are already showing off the TG01 on their website and if Q2 2009 is their release window, we should have some solid information along very soon. We can’t wait!
