Mobile Phone round-up of the Week

It’s been a busy week.

Obviously the iPhone is the place to start. Finally putting an end to a million years of speculation, Steve Jobs announced the phone that is going to take the world by storm. Five years ahead of all other mobile phones he said. Blimey!

Though thinking about it, it doesn’t really sound five years ahead, in fact the only brand new feature it has is the touch-screen, and that’s not even unique to the iPhone!

Nokia can’t help a little dig as well. “Its a suprise the iPhone is not 3G“, they said, though they were already in an extremely smug mood having just announced that more than 850 million people around the world use their handsets!

Elsewhere, Yahoo and Google, not content with dominating every other area of our lives, are inviting themselves into our mobile affairs. Yahoo have designed a new search engine and portal designed exclusively for wireless called OneSearch. It recognises the fact that busy mobile people simply don’t have the time to wade through pages and pages of results, and will instead offer a selection of possibilities it reckons we might have been thinking of! A search for “Man Utd” for example would give you not only ManUtd.com but also fixtures, results, players etc, saving us crucial seconds.

Google, meanwhile are cooperating with Samsung to produce a series of super-phones loaded with exciting applications such as Google Search, Google Maps, and Gmail!

Whilst an altogether more sensible partnership sees Samsung pairing up with The Simpsons to produce some garish yellow Simpsons branded phones for the forthcoming movie.

Pictures were released this week of yet another Sony Ericsson Walkman phone, the W880. It’s thin, and stylish and looks like its made of steel!

And finally, the German tourist who took a picture of some bloke she saw on the tube using her mobile phone has been united with him through some unbelievably fortunate circumstances. Why doesn’t this kind of thing happen to me?

I’m off to take some secret pictures of people I fancy.

Have a good weekend.
