There could be some good news on the horizon for eager Windows Phone fans waiting for the latest Windows Phone 8.1 update. A tweet from Microsoft India has indicated the new software will start to arrive during the first two weeks of July, and as expected, all current Window Phone 8 devices will be receiving the new version.
Announced during Build 2014, Windows Phone 8.1 is the first major update of Microsoft’s still growing mobile operating system, and it’s going to bring a wide variety of new features. Top of the list is Cortana, Windows Phone’s new virtual assistant, but it’s still not known whether she’ll be ready for duty in the UK at launch. Additionally, there’s a new notification centre, a cool Swype-like keyboard called Word Flow, and more customization options for the home and lock screens.
Microsoft has been cagey about the release date, saying only that it will launch over the coming months. There was talk of a 24 June release, but this date passed without any news. If Microsoft India’s tweet is relevant to the rest of the world, we may only have two more weeks to wait. However, there’s always the chance networks still need to approve the software, so don’t mark the dates down on your calendar just yet.
