Amazon has made some impressive claims about its Android app store, ahead of the expected launch of the online retailer’s first smartphone.
According to the company, the number of apps within its store has tripled over the last year. The store features apps made specifically for the Kindle Fire series of tablets along with other Android devices.
With this announcement, Amazon is clearly trying to position its app store as an alternative to Google Play. While it may not yet be able to boast the comprehensive menu that the Android maker can, it is interesting to know that users of the platform do now have a real, trust-worthy alternative.
Amazon is widely expected to be unveiling its own smartphone at an event scheduled for 18 June, with the device being rumoured to feature a unique, 3D user interface.
