Using BlinkFeed on the HTC One (M8)

BlinkFeed Main

One of the most distinctive features of HTC’s flagship handset is the BlinkFeed interface, which pulls through news feeds and social updates and displays them on one of the handset’s homescreens.

Accessed with a swipe to the right from the main screen, BlinkFeed is alive with everything that’s going on, with information personalised to suit you. Here’s how to get it up and running the way you want.

Adding content

Articles from some of the world’s biggest news providers can be pulled through to BlinkFeed.

  • Tap the three-line icon in the top left of the display
  • Tap the three dot icon in the top right of the menu which slides out from the left
  • Tap Add Content
  • Flick through the options that are available
  • Check the boxes next to the ones you want to follow
  • Swipe back to the main BlinkFeed screen and pull down to refresh your feed

Adding social networks

Along with news, your social networks can be displayed in the BlinkFeed interface

  • Tap the three-line icon and then the three-dot icon again
  • Select a social network and check the box next to it
  • You’ll be prompted to sign in
  • Some networks will ask for permission to access your account – grant it
  • Swipe back to the main BlinkFeed screen and pull down to refresh your feed

Composing an update

You can tweet, update your status or post to other social networks directly from BlinkFeed.

  • Once again, tap the three-line icon and then the three-dot icon
  • Hit Compose
  • Select the network you want to post to
  • The update page for that network will be shown, so you can type your message in
  • Do so, then hit the option to send or update

Viewing content from one source

You don’t have to have a mixture of articles all in one in the BlinkFeed interface, and can instead view content from just one source.

  • Hit the three-line icon again
  • For news updates, select one of sections listed
  • Select a source from the drop-down menu, then skip back to the main BlinkFeed page to see all the articles from that source
  • For social networks, select one from lower down the slide out menu then skip back to the main page to view all your updates

Search for content

You can search for particular articles and updates from certain people within BlinkFeed.

  • Tap the three-line icon
  • Tap the search bar at the top of the menu
  • Type in whatever it is you want to search for and it will be pulled up onscreen

Removing feeds

You may want to change the things that you see displayed in BlinkFeed.

  • Tap the three-line icon, then the three dots near the top
  • Hit Remove Content
  • Check the boxes next to the services you don’t want to get updates from anymore and they will no longer appear in your feed

Remove a particular article

You can remove individual articles from your feed too.

  • Simply press and hold on the article within the main BlinkFeed interface
  • Select either Read Later, which will save it offline for reading later, or Remove, which will get rid of it altogether
