Busy next week? You may want to set aside some time on 2 April, as Nokia will be holding an event in San Francisco, and it looks like we’ll be introduced to a few new Lumia smartphones. Announced on its Conversations blog, the event will take place at the same time as Microsoft’s Build developer conference.
If you’ve been following the news, you’ll know why this isn’t much of a surprise. Microsoft agreed to buy Nokia’s Devices Division late last year, and although the sale has yet to be given the final go ahead, it’s expected to complete sometime in the next month.
While Microsoft probably would have liked to use Build to tell us all about its plans for Nokia and the Lumia range, it looks like this will have to wait. But not to worry, Nokia still has some hardware to show us, according to the blog post. It starts out saying, “Boy, have we got some treats lined up for you,” before adding, “Remember, you can always do more Lumia.”
We’re not quite sure what that last statement means, but it certainly sounds like some new Windows Phone hardware will be on display. Plus, as Build is likely to be the launchpad for Windows Phone 8.1, we’d say they will be running the new software too.
Previous rumours and leaks indicate we could see several phones, including the Lumia 530 and Lumia 630, so there’s plenty to get excited about. Nokia’s event takes place next Wednesday, 2 April.
