Google’s wearable tech continues to make headlines as people find new uses to which it can be turned. The latest idea comes from the NYPD, and could see Google Glass being used to fight crime.
Reports suggest that the force has purchased several of the devices to conduct its own tests into how it could be used.
Exactly how the gadget will be turned into a crime-fighting device remains to be seen, and there have been no details from the NYPD as of yet. The only comment comes from an unnamed police official who spoke to tech industry site VentureBeat, saying: “We signed up, got a few pairs of the Google glasses, and we’re trying them out, seeing if they have any value in investigations, mostly for patrol purposes. We’re looking at them, you know, seeing how they work.
“We think it could help impact patrol operations in New York City. We shall see.”
A wider roll out of Google Glass has yet to emerge and the devices are still prohibitively priced at $1,500, but the fact that another potential use has been found for them points towards wider adoption in the future.
