Are you ready for the Galaxy S5? Of course you are, and the wait could be much shorter than we expected. Samsung tweeted from its official Mobile Twitter account yesterday, that later this month it’ll be holding another of its Unpacked events. The date is 24 February, which mobile fans will know is also the first day of Mobile World Congress, and sure enough, Samsung will be in Barcelona.
Samsung doesn’t give the game away, but the invitation has the number 5 in superscript next to the Unpacked title, which could be – we hope – a reference to the Galaxy S5. Samsung has only ever revealed high profile gadgets at its Unpacked shows, including the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3 in the past. While there’s always a chance it’ll be for something completely different, we’re confident this will be for the Galaxy S5.
It’ll mark a proper return to Mobile World Congress for Samsung, which although it has always had a large presence on the show floor, has chosen to hold separate events before or after for the last few years. By bringing the Galaxy S5, it could easily steal the show.
Rumours surrounding the device suggest it’ll have a screen measuring 5-inches or larger, a quad-core or octa-core processor, a 16-megapixel camera, and Android KitKat. There’s also a chance it’ll have a 1440p resolution, making it one of the first phones to go on sale with such a high pixel count.
The event takes place on 24 February, and we’ll bring you all the news as it’s revealed.
