One of the earliest names in the smartwatch world has a gone a step further than any of its competitors have managed so far. Pebble, the epaper watch that syncs with your smartphone has launched its own app store, allowing users to download software specifically tailored for the device.
Working from within the peripheral’s smartphone app, the store opens with a roster of apps that already runs into the thousands. Until now, users have only been able to add software to their Pebble by following webpage links on third party sites through their device, and the new innovation should make the smartwatch far more user-friendly.
Big names already signed up include ESPN, Foursquare and Yelp, making for an impressive and diverse roster. Although only available for iOS at first, the company behind the Pebble has said that a similar service will be coming to Android “very, very soon”.
