HTC could be working on a new smartphone with a powerful octa-core processor, wrapped up in a bright body which reminds us of Nokia’s Lumia range, at least based on the leaked images. However, while Samsung’s eight-core phones occupy the upper end of the range, HTC’s phone may be a solid mid-ranger.
If you’re wondering how this is possible, it’s because the mysterious HTC phone will probably use MediaTek’s brand new octa-core chip, and not Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa. This doesn’t make it a poor substitute though, as the MediaTek chip is capable of using all eight cores at the same time, should the performance be needed.
HTC has traditionally used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips, but MediaTek’s offerings are a more budget option, and are also popular in China and other fast upcoming markets. The leaked pictures show the phone coming in cool mint green, red, orange and yellow colour schemes. HTC has also been taking notice of how Nokia has designed its mid-range Lumia devices, and if the leaked photos are real, we think they look great.
There’s no firm details on the specification, but it’s hinted the device may have a 5-inch display with a 720p resolution, an 8-megapixel camera, and a healthy 1.5GB of RAM. Android 4.3 may be installed, with HTC Sense 5.5 over the top.
If HTC intends to release the phone, which may end up being a new Desire model, in the UK and Europe, it could be unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February.
