Flip phones may once have been at the very forefront of mobile style, way back in the days when manufacturers were racing to make their handsets as small as possible. In the era of 5-inch displays it seems that their appeal has waned enormously, as a recent robbery in New York suggests.
US newspaper the New York Post reports that Kevin Cook, a resident of the city, was recently walking through Central Park late one night with a friend when they were approached by two men, one of whom was carrying a gun.
When the robbers demanded his phone, Cook gave them his flip phone, which he describes as being “like a 3-year-old generation Windows Phone.” The robber took the handset from him, inspected it and promptly gave it back. “I guess he didn’t think he could get anything for it”, Cook added.
While some manufacturers, including Samsung, may have recently been toying with the idea of returning to a flip phone form factor, it seems that the once fashionable items may have very much fallen from favour of late.
