We’re looking forward to the Xperia Z1 F, as the leaks so far have shown it to be a high-spec smartphone with a smaller than usual display. However, we were quite prepared for a long wait, as previous rumors suggested the device wouldn’t be out until CES 2014. A new leak has cast that date in doubt, as it says the phone could be out within a matter of days.
The news comes from a brochure from Japanese network NTT DoCoMo, and shows 10 October as the release date for the Xperia Z1 F. This is the first time such a drastically different date has appeared, but it could only be for the Japanese market and not its international date.
This would be a shame, as alongside the HTC One Mini and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, the Xperia Z1 F is a real powerhouse. It’s expected to have the same Snapdragon 800 processor and 20-megapixel camera seen on the full-size Xperia Z1, with the only major change being the screen. Instead of a massive 1080p, 5-inch display, the Xperia Z1 F’s screen could measure 4.3-inches with a 720p resolution. Hardly tiny, but more manageable than its big brother.
So, will Sony release the miniature Z1 only in Japan, and in the next week? If it does, it may wait until CES 2014 to debut the phone internationally, a strategy it used with the Xperia Tablet Z at the beginning of the year. We’re hoping it won’t be the case.
