If you’re all excited for the Galaxy Note 3, which will be revealed in September, then Samsung may have another surprise to show us at the same time: the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch. We’ve heard about the Samsung Galaxy Gear before, not only when the unusual choice of name was leaked, but also when a Samsung executive confirmed the company was busily prepping one for release.
A new report, from Samsung fan site SamMobile, says Samsung will debut the Gear watch at its Unpacked 2 event, which will start off the IFA show in Berlin next month. The joint launch makes sense, as one of the selling points of a smartwatch is not needing to take out your phone to see your notifications, and as the Galaxy Note 3 is expected to have a screen size of at least 5.68-inches, it suits it perfectly.
Other than it being a watch, and presumably connecting to a smartphone, we don’t know much about Samsung’s Gear. Sony recently released an updated version of its own SmartWatch, which is capable of running third-party apps, and we wonder if Samsung will open its own store of Gear apps too. We’re not even sure of the Gear name either, as we’ve seen evidence it may be called the Altius.
We haven’t got long to wait before Samsung’s Unpacked 2 event, scheduled for 4 September, when everything about the Note 3 and hopefully, the Samsung Gear, will be revealed. We’ll keep you updated should any more leaks surface before then.
