Smartwatches have for some time been talked about as the next big thing in consumer tech, although their usability has been widely debated. Samsung has been mentioned as one of the firms which could be joining the fray, and it looks like we might now know the name of the Korean company’s upcoming smartwatch device.
Dutch fan site Galaxy Club has spotted the filing of a trademark for the name Galaxy Gear, which could be the title of a one off device or a range of gadgets that echoes Samsung’s leading range of Android smartphones and tablets.
The filing describes Galaxy Gear as: “Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wristband or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages.”
Earlier this year, Samsung filed a patent that included diagrams of what looked like a smartwatch, with a flexible display also being outlined in the description. The firm is expected to unveil a new Galaxy device, likely the Note 3, at a press event on 4 September, and it’s interesting to imagine that a whole new range of gadgets could emerge at the same time.
