More than 1.5 million Android devices are being activated each day, according to Larry Page, CEO of Google. This is up from a figure of 1.3 million daily activations that the platform boasted last September.
In the recent past, the search giant has announced that there are more than 900 million devices running its mobile software worldwide, with Page stating that this number is “pretty amazing given the first Android phone launched less than five years ago.”
Google Play, the Android platform’s app store, has also seen an enormous amount of growth, recently passing 50 billion downloads. It was only last September that downloads for the OS were around the 25 billion mark, an impressive figure at the time.
Apple’s App Store also reached the 50 billion landmark in May but Google Play is expected to overtake iOS soon.
