Nokia has announced a press event for 11 July in New York, where it’s going to launch a new camera phone. The invitation says, “Zoom reinvented,” with a magnifying glass over the words, “See more from Nokia,” leaving us with little doubt we’re going to see a competitor to Samsung’s new Galaxy S4 Zoom.
So what could it be? Smart money is on the introduction of a PureView Windows Phone, with a camera previously seen on the 808 PureView, a device which has been rumoured for some time. The phone has been given the unofficial codename of EOS, and rumors have linked it with a 41-megapixel camera.
The other specifications are expected to be similar to the Lumia 920 and Lumia 925, so look out for a 4.5-inch screen with a 1280×768 pixel resolution, plus a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Whether the phone will have a polycarbonate or a part aluminium body shell isn’t known, although leaked pictures make the former look most likely.
Nokia’s announcement is something of a surprise, as it has only recently launched the Lumia 925, so to hold another event so soon afterwards shows it either means business, or has brought the event forward in reaction to the S4 Zoom. The event will take place in New York at 11am local time, so it’s early evening for us here in the UK, but we’ll be sure to bring you all the news on the day.
