Could this be the Galaxy S4 Zoom? A series of pictures, including a very official looking press-style shot, have been leaked, potentially showing one of the stars of Samsung’s 20 June event. The Galaxy S4 Zoom has been rumoured for a little while, and as the name suggests, is a camera-centric variation of the Galaxy S4 flagship Android phone, but with a massive optical zoom lens fitted to the rear.
The photos, from Samsung fan site SamMobile, appear to show a massive device. That’s because it’s more camera than smartphone, as the lens houses a 10x optical zoom where most phones have a digital zoom feature. The S4 Zoom will run Android, just like the Galaxy Camera (which lacked a phone feature), and has a design and spec similar to the Galaxy S4 Mini.
This indicates it could have a 4.3-inch, 960×540 pixel resolution screen, and use a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, complete with 1GB of RAM. As you can see from the pictures, there’s a massive shutter release button, and various other camera-related features. What isn’t clear is whether the camera is an 8 megapixel, like the S4 Mini, or a 13 megapixel like the full-size S4.
We’re expecting the Galaxy S4 Zoom to be one of the highlights of Samsung’s 20 June event, when all the details will be revealed. If Samsung does use a 13 megapixel camera, the S4 Zoom could rival Nokia’s PureView camera phones as the best on the market. We’ll bring you all the action from the show next week.
