The US may have been first to try out Facebook Home, but the UK hasn’t been left too far behind, as the app is now available to download from the UK branch of Google Play. Announced at an event on 4 April, Facebook Home is not the Facebook Phone – that’s the HTC First - but it will convert your phone into one. It does this by replacing your existing homescreen set-up with the Facebook-designed Cover Feed, and incorporates all your favourite Facebook tools and apps into your phone, all ready for quick and easy access.
Before you go rushing off to download it, there are a few things you need to do in preparation. First, and most importantly, is check your phone is one which works with Facebook Home. The list is short but eclectic at this time, as it includes the Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note 2, the HTC One, One X and One X+, plus when it’s released, the Galaxy S4 too. Facebook has promised to add more device compatibility over time, but for now, you’ll need one of these high-end smartphones to enjoy Home.
Provided you’ve got the latest version of the Facebook app already installed on your phone, that’s it, you’re good to go. With Home installed, your phone will be transformed into an all Facebook, all the time experience. As to how desirable this is will depend on your love for the social network, but then if you’re not a fan, we’d be surprised if you were bothering to try it out in the first place.
