We already know Facebook is holding an event this Thursday, where it’ll reveal its, “New Home on Android,” which is believed to be a launcher-style app for Google’s mobile operating system. While we’re also expecting it to be made available through Google Play so users can download it and install it on their phones, there has always been a good chance Facebook would be launching a phone produced by HTC too.
As the event draws ever closer, we’ve now been treated to our first look at the device, as it has been leaked as the HTC First. The image comes from the @evleaks Twitter account, and before we go much further, we’ll remind you the phone is unofficial and there’s no way to verify the authenticity of the image provided.
The design isn’t very HTC, and certainly doesn’t resemble the gorgeous HTC One. In fact, it’s more like the iPhone 3G and in some ways, the old Nokia 5800. The Facebook Phone specifications could be the same as the previously leaked HTC Myst. If so, we can expect a 4.3-inch screen with a 720p resolution, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and a 5-megapixel camera. In which case, expect it to be cheap too. Of course, it’s the Facebook Home software which will be the main draw of the Myst/First, and that’s what we’re expecting the event to concentrate on.
Facebook’s event takes place at 10am local time on Thursday, so we won’t have the full story until the evening, but we’re getting more excited about it all now it appears we’re getting new software and a new phone.
