Weekly Web Highlight: Photoshop Troll

Published September 30, 2012 by Dan NixonArticles, Featured, Features

There is an old saying that goes “if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is”. And this adage is something that will no doubt resonate with the victims of this week’s Weekly Web Highlight, the amazing Photoshop Troll.

The anonymous image altering genius takes the images and (usually unrealistic) demands of people seeking to improve photographs and deliberately misconstrues their requests, to hilarious effect. The Adobe-toting pixel arranger has even set up a fake online storefront called Photoshop Request in order to lure in unsuspecting users.

Despite the comedy results, the Photoshop skills on show are at times outstanding and this only goes to make the whole joke even funnier. Of course, the accompanying online conversations that take place between troll and customer are equally brilliant, particularly when the user’s vanity is clearly the core issue.

There is probably some deep philosophical discussion to be opened up by Photoshop Troll concerning self-obsession and how we view ourselves. But much more importantly, the website is simply very, very funny.
