American Airlines has announced that it will be issuing flight attendants with Samsung Galaxy Note devices for use during flights and as a replacement for the manuals traditionally given to staff.
According to a report from Gizmodo, the US operator is to provide the hybrid smartphones to its staff as a continuation of the technology review currently being undertaken by the company.
It was recently announced that all American Airline pilots would receive Apple iPads instead of heavy manuals. Following testing however, flight attendants decided that they would prefer the Note due to its portability and the fact that it can be held in one hand.
AA staff should refrain from getting excited about using the handsets for free overseas calls however, as it appears that the devices will not have SIM cards installed and only be used as tablets.
American Airlines is set to roll out the devices to the majority of flight staff before mid 2013 and it has also stated that 91% its fleet will be Wi-Fi enabled before the end of the year.
