HTC Rumoured to be Preparing Flyer 2 Tablet

HTC could be working on a successor to its Flyer tablet if new rumours are to be believed, putting the manufacturer in competition with Google’s Nexus 7 and the iPad Mini.

Mobile tech site PhoneArena reports that an anonymous source has revealed details about the new device, which could feature a 7-inch display.

The source claimed that a new iteration of the Flyer will have an anodised aluminium bodyshell similar to that seen on HTC’s flagship One X and will be only 7.1mm thick, making it one of the slimmest tablet devices available.

Along with a screen resolution of 1280×768 pixels the device is rumoured to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, with the possibility that a quad-core variant of the chip could be used. Other suggested specs include a 3 megapixel rear lens and 1 megapixel front-facing camera.

The device is also speculated to run Android Jelly Bean, with HTC’s original Flyer having featured the tablet variant of Google’s mobile platform, Honeycomb.

There are no details about release dates as of yet, but HTC has recently sent out invitations to a press event taking place on 19 September. However, this date is more likely to see the unveiling of the Taiwanese manufacturer’s Windows Phone 8 devices. Check back for full coverage.
