Images have surfaced online of what appears to be an Android device running BBM via a debugger program.
The images, revealed by TechnoBuffalo, clearly show the BlackBerry software operating on what is reported to be an Android device with a 320 x 240-pixel resolution display. The UI appears to still be at test staging , but shows fairly convincingly that the development is taking place.
Sources suggest that the BlackBerry messaging platform will be made available on both Android and iOS devices, with the Android version expected later this year. The software will also be available on both operating systems via the business-based Mobile Fusion solution.
There has been talk of BBM going cross-platform for some time; however these latest images seem to point towards real progress rather than hushed speculation. Additionally, the step to multi-OS compatibility could turn out to be a key cornerstone of BlackBerry’s turnaround in the marketplace.
