Time flies when you’re waiting for an Android OS update, and it’ll perhaps surprise you that it was October last year that HTC announced it was examining its range to see which models would get an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. It was then in November that it informed us a variety of phones would be eligible, and the update would arrive sometime in early 2012.
Today, HTC has finally given a slightly more precise date for its initial series of updates, and which lucky phones will be first in line. Beginning late March with the Sensation and Sensation XL, shortly followed by the Sensation XE, we’ll see the first HTC Ice Cream Sandwich updates.
So what about everyone else? Well, HTC says owners of the Evo 3D, Desire S, Incredible S and the Desire HD will be catered for, except they’re going to have to wait until ‘later in the year’. Whether that will mean before or after summer isn’t clear, but it’s not the most positive of phrases.
The Facebook post announcing these details says to ‘stay tuned for more updates’, which should be coming through soon. At the very least, in less than two months, Sensation owners will be getting a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, but everyone else needs to continue playing the waiting game.
