A photo has surfaced online that sources are suggesting is the new Sony Xperia U ST25i (codenamed Kumquat). The leaked image was happened upon by Xperia Blog and shows a device with a form form factor very closely aligned to that of the recently launched Xperia S, continuing the ‘Iconic Identity’ design approach adopted by Sony.
However, the handset is notably smaller than the Xperia S and has larger icons on-screen, suggesting a lower resolution, which gives leverage to speculation that the Kumquat will have a 3.5-inch display at 480 x 854 pixels. Additional rumours are also suggest that the phone will feature a 5-megapixel camera and 1GHz dual-core processor, details that cannot be substantiated by the image.
The Kumquat is reportedly set for an April launch and will form part of a trio of devices which includes the Nypon and Pepper handsets, details of which were leaked last week as part of Sony’s 2012 release plans.
Industry sources also envisage a busy Mobile World Congress for the Japanese manufacturer, with several handsets rumoured for release. Although no official word has been forthcoming, we expect the Kumquat to surface at the event alongside the Nypon and Pepper devices.
