Corning to Unveil Gorilla Glass 2 at CES

Smartphone screen manufacturer Corning will be showcasing a new improved variation of their successful Gorilla Glass display pane solution at CES this week, Techradar has revealed.

Currently used in over 575 products including the Samsung Galaxy S2 and Apple iPhone 4S, Gorilla Glass has established itself as a must-have component for top end devices.

James Steiner, senior VP and general manager of Corning Speciality Materials stated that Gorilla Glass 2 will help handset and tablet designers move towards “higher functionality from thinner designs” which, although slightly vague, does suggest that the new iteration may offer increased durability across all applications.

Dissection of Steiner’s comments has led to speculation that the new product may be thin enough to reduce or even eliminate the need for bezels on devices, a development that could have vast implications for the future of handset and tablet design

Further details have yet to emerge on the product but there is little doubt that all the major players will be taking a visit to the Corning stand at some point in the coming days.
