More iPhone 5 Redesign Evidence Appears, Thanks to Case-Mate

Yet another iPhone 5 related leak has hit the Internet, this time related to the design of Apple’s next smartphone.  Accessory manufacturer Case-Mate ‘accidentally’ put up a webpage full of cases for the iPhone 5, before hurriedly taking it down again and replacing it with a regular landing page – after everyone had picked up on the link and spread it about, of course.

Ignoring the slightly suspect motivations behind the leak, the cases themselves conceal what looks like an aluminium-backed device which appears to be slimmer and taken on a more iPad 2-like chassis design.  For Apple to bring the iPhone 5 inline with the iPad 2′s look makes sense, and has been previously rumoured.

Although the form factor looks different to the iPhone 4, the camera lens, sleep/wake key, volume controls and headphone port all remain in familiar positions.  However, the cases seem to show the mute switch having swapped sides and is now next to the camera lens, plus Case-Mate has added a cut out on some for what we can assume is the SIM tray.  Strange.

In a related leak, a screen protector supposedly for the iPhone 5 has shown up, showing a wider home button beneath the screen.  Of course, with absolutely no corroboration from Apple, neither of these two leaks could turn out to be accurate, however Case-Mate is a very well-known accessory manufacturer and could have been supplied some simple dimensions.

Leaks of this nature look set to continue until the device finally makes its bow but hopefully, Apple will make an announcement sometime soon.
