Alongside the slightly odd, almost Dell Streak-like Galaxy Note launched at IFA, Samsung also announced a sort of iPod Touch-type device in the form of the Galaxy Wi-Fi 3.6. As the model numbering suggests it has a 3.6-inch display and its design language has the look and feel of the admittedly larger screened Galaxy S2.
It can even make voice and video calls although it doesn’t have a SIM card slot meaning that calls can only be made when you’re in range of a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Despite this, it’s not exactly a slouch with a 1GHz OMAP processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, supports a variety of video and audio formats and has a facility called Social Hub which enables the owner to stay in contact through social networking sites.
As for its communication features – users can make voice or video calls over the internet, using platforms such as Google Talk. The Wi-Fi 3.6 will be available in black and white and 8GB and 16GB configurations with prices starting from a mere £149.
