Rumour has it that Samsung is looking to bring a 2GHz dual-core processor to the market. The Maeli Business Newspaper spoke to a “high ranking” official from the Korean firm who spilled the beans on its future smartphone plans.
According to the source: “We [Samsung] are planning to release a 2GHz dual-core CPU equipped smartphone by next year.
“This product will have the data processing capacities of a regular PC.”
The thing is, the 2GHz part refers to each chip so the actual power of the device Samsung is setting its sights on will be 4GHz. It’s certainly a step up for the 1.2GHz dual-core chip we’ve just encountered on the Samsung Galaxy S II, and the fact that we could see the first offering in a year’s time is really exciting stuff.
The report added that Samsung is considering selling the CPU units separately so other smartphone makers can use them as well. Maybe this is something we can expect from the Samsung Galaxy S3? Let the speculation begin!
