Have you ever needed to make a call to an 0800 number but had to wait until you got home because it costs too much to try and call from your mobile? It’s especially annoying when they keep you in a queue for ages. But remember, your call is very important to them!
Well there’s good news for mobile users as consumer watchdog Ofcom have recommended that all 0800 calls become free for mobile users, just as they are on landlines.
Many mobile users are caught out by fees of up to 40p a minute as they expect calls to 0800 numbers to be free. Because of the lack of transparency in mobile tariffs concerning such calls Ofcom have put forward proposals to network providers to not only be clearer on their pricing plans but to also make 0800 calls free for their customers.
It’s not just 0800 numbers though, 03, 05, 070/076, 080, 0845, 0870, 083/4, 0871, 09, 116 and 118 numbers could all be affected too. If you want more information, Ofcoms full proposal is available on the web. Either way it looks like Consumers 1 – Networks 0.
