The iPhone is a terrific handset for people who enjoy watching videos on their phone. However, if you have ever tried to watch a video in a format that isn’t supported by the native iOS, then you know that it’s a frustrating process. Sure, it’s possible to watch a DivX video on the iPhone, but it requires going through a time-consuming conversion process, or at least it used to. The new release of the VLC Player for the iPhone changes all of that.
Here is how it works:
- Download the new VLC Player app. It’s available for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.
- Connect your phone to your computer.
- Go to the iTunes File sharing feature to copy the videos you want to watch.
- Select the “apps” tab.
- Scroll down to “file sharing”.
- Select “VLC”.
- Select “add”.
- Choose the video that you want to add.
That’s all you need to do in order to watch videos on your iPhone, regardless of what format they’re in. That’s a lot quicker than most conversion tools, plus it provides a single place on your computer for organising and uploading videos.
To maintain that optimal level of organisation with your videos, you can delete them on your iPhone once you are done watching them without needing to go back into iTunes.
People may be aware that this player was released last month for the iPad, although reports indicate the newest version for iPhone is more up to date, offering smoother video playback. People with an iPod Touch will be glad to know that the app works for third and fourth generation products as well.
And all users should be happy to know that this particular app is free!
