The BlackBerry 9800 has been sliding across our screens for a good while now, and we’ve just received word that suggests an official announcement is imminent, we can’t say we didn’t see it coming!
It looks as though the FCC in the US have passed the BlackBerry handset, which documentation refers to as ‘BlackBerry Smartphone Model RCY71UW’. While the name might not give anything away, the 9800 references throughout the rest of the report backs our suspicions, not only that but the wireframe looks extremely similar to our Blackberry Torch friend.
The document reveals the following were all given the thumbs up, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n, GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/1900, UMTS II (1900), V (850) as well as GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800 MHz bands and UMTS I (2100) bands for international use.
Fortunately, it doesn’t look as though we’ve got all that long to wait until we’re given the full showing. Engadget has said there will be an official announcement from RIM 4pm UK time. Let the countdown begin!
