Thank goodness they’ve dropped the Motoroi name for the UK release! The formerly Korean-only smartphone has been rumoured to be coming to the UK for a while, and Motorola have finally made it official along with the change of branding. The phone is now known as the XT720 Milestone, but it’s not clear if it’s a replacement to the original Milestone or another in the series – much like its Droid namesake in the USA.
The XT720 has a 3.7″, 480×854 pixel capacitive touchscreen and will run Google Android 2.1, however Motorola have not yet revealed the speed of the Qualcomm processor inside, so it cannot be confirmed if the Motoroi’s 600MHz item has indeed been replaced by a 1GHz Snapdragon chip. The phone is a 3G device with HSDPA and HSUPA, plus Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth v2.0.
The camera has 8 megapixels, with autofocus, digital zoom and a xenon flash, plus it can shoot 720p video and the phone has an HDMI-out. There is a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone socket and all the usual Google applications and tools associated with the OS.
The unusual design has really grown on us since we first say the XY720, plus the camera spec is really impressive for an Android phone, especially with a xenon flash and 720p video. The phone should be out during the summer.
