Sony Ericsson Announce Two New Walkman Mobile Phones

Sony Ericsson join the party this week with two new Walkman mobile phones, which although aren’t quite as high on the excitement scale as the Kin or the Nokia C6, they’re still well-specified phones with rather cool names!

First we have the Zylo, a slider phone with the following key features:

  • 3G with HSDPA.
  • A 2.6″ screen.
  • 3.2 megapixel camera.
  • MicroSD card slot for cards up to 16GB.
  • Bluetooth.

The big advantage of the Zylo is that the media player supports the super high-quality FLAC file type, plus the more usual MP3 and AAC, although this is slightly spoiled by the lack of 3.5mm headphone socket. To make up for this oversight, the Zylo has A2DP Bluetooth and comes complete with Sony Ericsson’s MH907 motion-activated headphones.

The Zylo also has an FM radio with RDS, Facebook and Twitter clients and the usual add-ons for the Walkman media player including SensMe, Shake Control, Clear Bass, PlayNow and TrackID.

The second handset announced is the Spiro, another slider Walkman:

  • 2G with GPRS and EDGE.
  • A 2.2″ screen.
  • 2 megapixel camera.
  • MicroSD card slot for cards up to 16GB.
  • 3.5mm headphone socket.

As you can see from the spec, the Spiro is not as feature-rich as the Spiro, but it does offer a regular headphone port instead of A2DP Bluetooth. The media player has PlayNow and TrackID, but doesn’t include the other top-end Walkman features found on the Zylo. The same social networking widgets are included though, along with the FM RDS radio too.

Both are expected to launch during Q3 this year and will be available in several different colours.
